Paris, the City of Light, is an obvious must-visit destination for any college student wanting to travel. With its captivating blend of history, art, culture, and an infectious joie de vivre, Paris offers an unforgettable experience. We traveled there for our first weekend trip out of St Andrews and it was still one of the most fun weekends I have had. In my opinion, one could travel there for a week and still find plenty to fill your days and nights with. Your days could be filled strolling through the historic Marais district, brimming with charming cafes, boutiques, and medieval architecture or embracing the bohemian spirit of Montmartre, where artists and street performers bring the narrow streets to life. A few great places to stay if you are looking for hostels are the Generator Hostel and the Caulaincourt Hotel & Hostel Paris and some affordable yet stylish hotels include the Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc le Marais, Hôtel Bienvenue, and Hôtel Henriette. If you visit, most definitely do not miss the iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Champs-Élysées, but also venture off the beaten path to discover hidden gems like cozy cafes, lively markets, and secret gardens.
La Palette: Nestled in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, La Palette beckons with its charming French bistro ambiance and delectable cuisine. The interior exudes a cool, vintage vibe, with its artfully curated decor and photography-worthy nooks, making it a picturesque spot for capturing the essence of Parisian cafe culture. Whether you're seeking a quick snack and a drink or indulging in a leisurely long lunch, La Palette caters to your desires with classic French dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients, allowing you to savor the flavors of the city's culinary heritage. While the service may not be the best, the atmosphere and cuisine more than make up for it – after all, Parisians are not best known for their hospitable service. Conveniently situated in a prime location, the restaurant's placement affords guests the opportunity to meander through the charming neighborhood, exploring the delightful array of boutiques and shops that dot the surrounding area.
Cafe Ella: Fuel up for a day of activities with Cafe Ella's incredible brunch offer. For just 23 euros, indulge in a heavy combo of a hot beverage, refreshing cold drink, sweet treat, and savory dish. Their classic brunch menu includes highlights like nutella and banana pancakes, acai bowls, and avocado toast. An unbeatable fare and delicious value make Cafe Ella the go-to spot for an affordable yet satisfying brunch in the heart of Paris.
Gigi Paris: Situated in the 8th arrondissement, Gigi Paris stands as a grand Milanese restaurant serving classic Italian dishes across multiple elegant floors. The restaurant offers a sophisticated, refined ambiance with expansive views of Paris including the Eiffel Tower. While the pricing reflects the upscale nature of Gigi, the experience is well worth it for those seeking a memorable dining affair. A fun addition to our dinner at Gigi was the live music that went on throughout the meal as there was a singer and backup musicians going from table to table while performing. Reservations are highly recommended to secure your place at this coveted Parisian destination. Overall, while it is definitely a higher-end meal, Gigi Paris is a special dining experience that you will not regret.
Le Comptoir Générale: This Parisian local spot in the 10th arrondissement is a unique, vibrant cocktail bar and brunch spot. With Afro-Caribbean decor and very few tourists, the well made Mojitos, lush greenery that adorns the space and relaxed, open atmosphere makes Le Comptoir Générale an ideal dining space. While brunch is the favorite, they also serve a well-reviewed dinner menu.
Picasso Museum: This museum is home to the largest collection of Picasso’s art and if you are an admirer of his work this museum is definitely worth checking out. It is also close to the Murray district, so you can go vintage shopping at the longggg list of stores below after you visit this museum.

Fondation Louis Vuitton: If you are a fan of modern art, but are wanting to skip the long lines that are all over the George Pompidou Center then definitely check this museum out. Both architecturally and with the unique pieces they exhibit, Fondation Louis Vuitton will definitely not disappoint. Students also get discounted tickets, so when you are buying keep that in mind.

The Louvre & Musée d'Orsay: These world-class museums, holding some of the most well-known art, both offer free admission on the first Sunday of the month or after 6pm on certain days, so depending on when you plan to visit, definitely check that out.
Marché Bastille: Spend one of your Thursday or Sunday mornings grabbing breakfast or a snack at this large open-air market and explore the 200 stalls it has to offer, with a selection of fresh produce, cheese, meat, street food, flowers, and more.
Versailles: If you are looking for a day trip outside of the city, definitely consider visiting Versailles. This magnificent property, located just outside the city center (about an hour on the metro) offers a glimpse into the opulent life of French royalty and the rich history of France. The palace itself, with its lavish interiors and ornate details, leaves visitors in awe. Another highlight though, is the meticulously manicured gardens and in particular, Marie-Antoinette’s Hamlet and Trianons which was my personal highlight of the visit as the structure and the history behind it is fascinating. I would advise going on a Wednesday or Thursday if you can to avoid the weekend crowds. Beyond the palace grounds, the town of Versailles welcomes visitors with quaint markets and cafes, providing the perfect setting to soak in the grandeur of this renowned French destination.
Luxembourg Gardens: Make your way to the Luxembourg Gardens, a massive 57-acre green space that offers free access to the public. Pack a picnic basket or grab something from a nearby cafe, and settle in for a relaxing afternoon amid the garden’s serene beauty. Stretch out on the lush lawns, or stake your claim on one of the legendary green metal chairs scattered throughout the grounds. More than just a pretty backdrop, the gardens provide ample opportunities for activity, including sailing one of the model boats on the central pond, or saddling up for a leisurely pony ride. If you prefer spectating, grab a seat to watch the games of lawn bowling played by local enthusiasts. Whether you are seeking a quiet reprieve or a day of affordable outdoor fun, the Luxembourg Gardens deliver a true taste of Parisian life at its most laid-back and charming.
No Entry Speakeasy: This underground speakeasy is one of the coolest bars I have been to. Tucked away in the basement of the Pink Mama Restaurant, this speakeasy is concealed behind an unassuming faux cold room entrance. We waited on a short life in this entrance area in the basement for about fifteen minutes before being let in as No Entry operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations accepted so try to get there early. Once inside, the speakeasy is dimly lit, setting a very mysterious yet indulgent vibe with floral carboys filled with alcohol adorning the walls. No Entry offers an extensive cocktail menu ranging from unique, innovative concoctions to classic cocktails, there is a drink everyone will enjoy.
Pachamama Nightclub: This five story club, which is pictured to the left, is definitely an unforgettable night-out experience. With each story, there is a whole new atmosphere promising that any guest will get what they are looking for from a night out. We got there at 11:00pm, paid a small fee at the door since we had no tickets and got in immediately as there was no line at that time (when we left at 1:30am there was a monstrous line down the block, so definitely get there early). While we waited about an hour for the space to fill up, and the night to get going, getting there early to avoid a line was definitely worth it. Another hack, would be to have dinner there before at around 9:30pm so that you get dinner and then there is not an entry fee. There are all types of people here as the club attracts both a younger and older crowd, but if you come here for a night out, you are for sure going to have a wild night as people typically stay until 3:00am or later.
Le Duplex Nightclub: This club has a much younger student vibe, so if you are a college student you are for sure going to be surrounded by other students. We got there early, got tickets at the door and was in immediately. I have heard that everyone should be sure to keep their drinks covered there, but in my experience the night was safe and a fun time. I actually even lost my phone at one point and someone handed it into security and it was returned to me later in the night. For both clubs, make sure to bring some cash if you have not bought your ticket in advance. Overall, this is definitely a great spot if you are looking for a student club atmosphere.
